This is the Temple of Heracles or Hercules, located in the Valle dei Templi in the city of Agrigento on the island of Sicily in Italy. This is only one example of the numerous ruins of temples that are part of this World heritage site. It is indeed quite a beautiful area to explore and to imagine what life was like back in the 6th century BC. This image was shown as part of a gallery exhibition in Florida back in 2007. The series of images in the exhibit were edited and color adjusted to reference a sense of memory and history. The dark sky, vignette and highlight of the middle columns brings to mind a place of wonder and worship that this site held for thousands of years. I also left a shadow on one of the columns of one of my students standing there, I removed her but kept the shadow. This shadow to me was a reference to the temple itself and the small part that is left standing, an architectural shadow of it’s former self.
Our visit to the island was excellent, great food, great scenery, a visit with antiquity and a few Sicilians singing operas in their cars from time to time.

Loved the poetic metaphor of your photograph. Beautiful, powerful, so thoughtful.
