These are the Flaming Mountains in the Tian Shan Mountain Range, Xinjiang, China. We were lucky on this day to get the right light and have the red color really stand out. We stopped on the desert road to get this shot on our way to Turpan. During our three weeks in China we followed the ancient Silk Routes, exploring the cities, cultures and landscapes along the way. If you look closely, you will see several camels on the valley floor next to the waters edge.
This shot is a 5 image panoramic. I wanted to show the river bending away off the right side as the green tapered off as well. This leaves the river and grasses alone and seemingly the only oasis of life.
