When we traveled through China we followed the ancient silk routes and started in the city of Urumqi. This city is a very old and dusty area populated by a mix of Chinese, Turks, Mongols and Russians. I took this shot in a Muslim bazaar located in the outskirts of town. I asked to take the shot, he smiled and then when I raised up my camera, he quickly frowned. After I took the shot and thanked him he gave me a quick smile and went about his business. I guess he knew I wasn’t in the market for a sledgehammer or a wrench at the moment.
