This is Mt. Aspiring National Park on the south island, in New Zealand. I had the day off from teaching photography and my students went in one direction and we went in another. I was lucky enough to be with my niece who lives in New Zealand. She rented a car, picked a direction and off we went. We wandered through the small town of Wanaka, found a dirt road on the other side and decided to see where it would take us. We passed through several farms, lots of sheep and cattle roaming about, and waterfalls everywhere. We stopped at a point where our tiny rental car was deemed unsafe and too small to pass through the stream in front of us. The rain was moving in and the sky was a beautiful range of blues and grays, a perfect place for a panoramic. The rain was just starting to lightly fall as I set up the shot, and this was the last capture of the day.

A palette of moody blues – bewitching and becalming.
